An acquantance of Joe's: There was a street in Joe's home town that attracted countercultural elements. Joe worked there for a couple of years in an independent movie theater. She was a coworker who bided her time scribbling odd doodles, making up little songs and affecting the manners of both cat and canary at the same time. They all smoked a lot. The question about her that lingered long after she was no longer in Joe's circle was whether she was actually insane or simply trying too hard.
