Polymer Clay with India Ink Wash
2004
This polymer clay piece was conceived as a technical exercise, to explore both the medium and the subject. Intensive research was conducted upon the uniform details for a German NCO during the opening phases of the First World War, a period of success for the German Army marked by intense and often very bloody battles bridged by long, hard marches. The pose attempts to convey the timeless exhaustion felt by all soldiers on campaign, while not quite yet introducing to the subject the bitter disillusion that was to come after the trenches were dug.
